There are several structural projects that need immediate attention. Below is a list of these items and potential completion time frames.
The building wooden sill is original to the 1780 house and has deteriorated is a number of places. It is in need of immediate replacement in those areas. This work has been scheduled for the summer of 2023.
Previous work to strengthen the deteriorated joists under the ground floor needs to be expanded. this project is scheduled to be completed during the summer of 2023.
The support columns in the basement are basically wood trees installed many years ago. Some may be original. This project will replace all columns will metal ones including installation of concrete footings.
The attached storage shed needs major work including complete sill replacement.
Projects to restore and enhance the exterior of the Wilder-Holton House.
The Wilder-Holton House has 29 windows that need to be repaired.Work includes removing the sashes, replacing the glazing, and repairing the sills where needed. This project is partially funded by a dedicated fund raised in conjunction with donations from Lancaster Academy Alumni.
All of the existing storm windows are in need of replacement. These will be done as soon as funds allow. Protection of the repaired windows is important, as well as heat conservation in the cold winter months
The condition of the current siding needs to be investigated to determine whether a total replacement is needed or if only spot replacement..In either case the work should be done as soon as possible to protect the building structure.
Once the siding is repaired or replaced, a fresh coat of paint will be applied.
The contractor, Quality Insulation of Meredith, setup and proceeded to add extra insulation to the attic area .
The attic insulation was installed first.
There was previously a minimal amount of insulation installed blow the attic floor boards. The contractor added more there plus 12 inches above the floor boards.
Note the hose leading to the attic.
The project was started in early Nov.. This photo shows insulation being blown into a stud bay cavity in the first floor west wall.
Locating the individual stud bays was a challenge because the original 1780 construction methods did not create evenly spaced stud locations.
As each stud bay was located an access hole needed to be drilled to allow the insulation to be blown in.
As each stud bay was completed, a wooden plug was inserted into the access hole.
This project was started in mid July. This photo shows some of the damage west end of the wall. Note the rot just in front of the worker.
Further down the side, behind the worker in the previous photo, the rot is really bad.
The north side is so bad that the whole sill needs replacing. Here is a section of new sill being installed
As each side sill is restored a new skirting board is installed to protect the sill. At this point the North, East and South sides have been restored and covered. The Restored West side involves a short section abutting the attached shed.
As each side sill is restored a new skirting board is installed to protect the sill. The East side restoration involves the areas on either side of the porch, but not under the porch..
